What if my dog is small and gets into the roof?
Keep your dog indoors while treatment is carried out in the roof or sub-floor. Ask the technician to search for and remove any dead rodents before you let your dog roam treated areas. Small dogs should not be allowed access to roof voids or sub-floors during or immediately after treatment.

Can I use supermarket rat baits around my dog?
They pose a greater risk to dogs than professionally placed bait in locked stations. If you have already placed them, remove them before a professional arrives so the technician can assess the infestation without doubling up.

How do I tell if I have mice or rats?
Mice leave droppings 3 to 6 mm, rice-grain shaped, scurry and gnaw small holes. Rats leave droppings roughly 10 to 20 mm depending on species (roof rats around 12 mm and pointed; Norway rats up to 20 mm and blunt), thump across the roof void and gnaw holes the size of a 50-cent coin. Black rats are climbers; Norway rats are ground and sub-floor animals. Species identification matters because treatment differs. See the rat control guide for comparison.

How long until the mice are gone?
Most domestic jobs settle within two to three weeks. Mice usually feed within a day or two once they accept the station. The follow-up visit checks consumption and repositions stations along the runs.

How do I tell if I have rats or mice?
Droppings are the fastest tell. Gnaw holes confirm it: rats make holes the size of a 50-cent coin, mice make smaller holes.

Are rats and possums different problems?
Possums (Common Brushtail Possums, Trichosurus vulpecula) are marsupials, not rodents. Rats have a distinctive pair of chisel-shaped front incisors with hard yellow enamel. Possums are nocturnal and retreat to hollow logs or trees during the day. Possums are a protected species in Australia. If you hear slow thumping or see larger, fluffier animals, contact a possum-relocation specialist instead.
